Fiberglass vs. Cellulose

All Year Cooling offers comprehensive, professional whole-house duct cleaning to improve air quality. Our technicians use special tools to dislodge dirt and debris stuck in the airflow system, and then thoroughly sanitize the entire system.

Instead of cellulose, which is used by many contractors, All Year Cooling uses a fiberglass material. Cellulose is made of shredded newspaper and contains boric acid that, while sitting in the 135 degree heat of an attic, begins to break down and turn to dust. When this dust gets into leaky ducts and is distributed throughout the home, it becomes a part of the air that you and your family are breathing.

Consider that, according to FPL, about 2/3 of homeowners have leaky ducts and you'll begin to understand the importance of alternatives such as fiberglass.

While fiberglass has been labeled as a possible carcinogen, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has stated that they feel fiberglass is not a threat to people in their daily lives. This is because fiberglass is most threatening during installation, as tiny glass particles become airborne and may be breathed in.

When the fiberglass is settled in the attic where it is not disturbed, it does not pose a threat to the average person in his or her daily life.

R-Value

Our technicians can adjust the insulation to meet R-value, or thermal resistance, requirements set by building codes and recommendations set by the Department of Energy. The insulation depth and density can be adjusted to meet these requirements; in South Florida, most residents are recommended to have insulation with R-values of R-30 to R-60.

Whereas cellulose has been known to settle over time, reducing R-value, fiberglass' R-value is better maintained over the life of the product.

All Year Cooling technicians are trained to do the job right the first time, providing you with the very best service to keep your home at optimal temperature and your energy bills down. All Year Cooling even places R-Value rulers during installation to help them get the job done right.

Letting the Attic Breathe

While keeping your attic insulated is the idea behind blown-in insulation, you still want your attic to breathe. Attic rafter vents are installed by trained All Year Cooling technicians to make sure that your attic is properly ventilated even in the thickest parts of insulation. The attic rafter vents keep insulation off of your vents so that air flows effectively.

Preventing Mold

Other contractors may simply go into your attic spraying, covering your air ducts. What this does is create heat around the duct and when cool air flows through, condensation forms which may cause mold; and South Florida residents are well aware of the dangers of mold.

All Year Cooling lifts the ducts off of the floor and suspends them from the ceiling. It takes a little extra work, but its well worth it to prevent mold from forming.
